Kvitsøy VTS centre in Rogaland monitors traffic from Bømlafjorden in the north to Jærens Rev in the south. This VTS centre handled 155 400 vessel clearances in 2014; a growth of 19 per cent or 25 300 clearances compared to 2013. The growth stems solely from increased traffic in the area of coverage, mainly of passenger ships.
In Fedje VTS centre in Northern Hordaland, the clearances increased by 87 per cent from 2013 to 93 300 in 2014. The significant growth must be viewed in conjunction with the extended geographic area of responsibility this VTS centre obtained in 2014. While Fedje VTS centre mainly monitored traffic to and from Mongstad previously, the approach to Bergen from the south was also included in the VTS´s area of coverage in 2014.
Almost 115 000 sailings requiring pilotage
The number of sailings requiring pilotage increased by almost 7 per cent in 2014 to 114 700. Vestlandet was, as usual, the maritime traffic department with most sailings requiring pilotage, by almost 26 900 in 2014. However, the largest growth, both relatively and absolutely, in sailings requiring pilotage, was in the Skagerrak department. More than 17 000 such sailings were carried out in 2014. This was an increase of 3 700 sailings or 28 per cent from 2013.
Out of all sailings requiring pilotage, 68 000 were conducted through a pilot exemption certificate, 44 400 through a pilot on board and 2 300 through pilot exemption. Use of a pilot exemption certificate increased by almost 11 per cent from the previous year, while the changes from 2013 were minor for the two other categories of pilotage.
Little change in total expenditures
The Coastal Administration’s own production, i.e. the sum of wages and cost of purchased goods and services, increased by NOK 58 million, or 3.2 per cent, from 2013 to 2014. Total expenditures, however, decreased by NOK 9 million to NOK 2 685 in 2014. The main reason for this was the reduction in investments by NOK 132 million in 2014 compared to 2013.
