Increase in demand for accommodation

The number of guest nights at Norwegian collective accommodation establishments amounted to 1.79 million in September 2002, an increase of 0.8 per cent compared with September last year. The domestic and the foreign demand increased by 0.9 and 0.5 per cent respectively.

Germany, which is the largest foreign market in September, increased by 3 per cent in 2002, compared with the September last year. As in August, Germans stayed more in camping sites.

The Swedish market decreased by 4 per cent compared with September last year. The reason is fewer guest nights at hotels and camping sites.

The number of guest nights at collective accommodation establishments totalled 20.98 million during the first nine months of 2002, less than 1 per cent more than last year. The number of foreign guest nights went down by 0.7 per cent, while the number of domestic stays increased by 1.3 per cent.

Camping increased

Camping sites had in all 404 000 guest nights in September, an increase of 13 per cent. Norwegian stays increased by 14 per cent, and the foreign ones increased by 8 per cent.

So far this year the number of stays at camping sites amounted to 7.04 million, an increase of 5 per cent. Compared with the corresponding period last year the number of foreign and domestic guest nights went up by 2 and 6 per cent respectively.

Holiday dwellings increased

The number of guest nights at Norwegian holiday dwellings came to 41 000 in September, an increase of 9 per cent compared with September last year. The domestic marked increased by 12 per cent, while the foreign market increased by 6 per cent.

So far this year the number of guest nights at Norwegian holiday dwellings amounted to 429 000, an increase of 5 per cent from last year. The number of Norwegian guest nights increased by 1 per cent, while the foreign market increased by 8 per cent.
