Increased guest nights in 2011 to date
There were close to 56 500 guest nights in the collective accommodation establishments on Svalbard up to July this year. This is 9 per cent higher than for the same period last year.
The increase is primarily due to an increase in Norwegian guest nights on Svalbard. Foreign guest nights dropped by 14 per cent, while the Norwegian guest nights increased by 19 per cent compared with last year.
Fewer hotel guest nights in July
In July this year there were nearly 11 200 guest nights in hotels and similar establishments on Svalbard, which is a decrease of 3 per cent compared with same period last year. Foreign guest nights dropped by 600 from July 2010 to July 2011. Norwegian guest nights increased by 5 per cent in the same period.
Guest nights by holiday and recreational purposes keep dropping
Guest nights by holiday and recreational purposes fell by 8 per cent compared with July last year. Guest nights by course, conference and professional purposes went up by 7 per cent during the same period.
About the statistics’ basisThe statistics cover only guest nights of the commercial accommodation establishments in Longyearbyen, but not those in Barentsburg or other areas on Svalbard. |
Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR)RevPAR is an important key figure and is defined as lodging revenue (exclusive of meals) divided by number of available rooms. RevPAR expresses potential profit and is an indication of the management’s ability to convert available rooms to income. |
