Growth for telecommunications

Businesses within telecommunication had a 7,8 per cent increase in total turnover in the second quarter of 2006 compared with the same quarter the previous year. Postal services experienced a 9 per cent decrease in the same period, while businesses within courier activities increased turnover by 0,9 per cent

Hotels and restaurants increased turnover

The index of hotels and restaurants increased by 8,2 per cent in the second quarter of 2006 compared with the second quarter of 2005. The turnover of restaurants and cafés increased by 5,9 per cent, while snack bars experienced a 5,3 per cent growth in the same period. Businesses within canteens and catering had a successful quarter. Turnover increased by 16,5 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2005.

Good quarter for tramway and suburban transports

In the second quarter of 2005, businesses within tramway and suburban transports had a 17 per cent increase in turnover compared with the same period the previous year. Freight transport by road increased by 7,8 per cent. The turnover for the total land transport industry increased by 5,6 per cent in the same period. Transport via railways increased by 3,1 per cent, while other land transport increased by 6,5 per cent. Transport via pipelines increased by 1,4 percent.

Small decrease for water transports

Businesses within water transports experienced a 0,8 decrease in turnover from the second quarter of 2005 to the second quarter of 2006. Ocean transport, which is accountable for the largest share of the turnover in water transport, had a 5,6 per cent decrease in the same period. A 26,9 per cent increase within tug- and supply vessels explains the modest decrease in the total industry. The index of air transports increased by 4,5 per cent, while scheduled air transport increased by 1,4 per cent.
