Good year for hotels

2006 was a good year for hotel businesses which increased turnover by 9,3 per cent from 2005. Hotels with restaurants had a 10 per cent increase in the fourth quarter of 2006 compared with the same quarter previous year.

Operation of restaurants and cafés increased by 8,7 per cent and bars by 11,3 per cent.

Growth in air transports

Air transports increased turnover by 13.8 per cent. Scheduled air transports went up 8.8 per cent compared with fourth quarter of 2005. Businesses within water transports increased by 4.2 per cent. Ocean transport, which holds most of the turnover in the industry, decreased turnover by 0.7 per cent.

Good quarter for transport via railways

Turnover in transport via railways went up 4.5 per cent from the same quarter the previous year.

Tramway and suburban transport increased turnover by 10.7 per cent in the same period. Scheduled motor bus transport increased by 6.1 per cent. Transport via pipelines went up by 5,1 per cent.

Increase in post and telecommunications

Businesses within telecommunications had a 7.2 per cent increase in turnover compared with the fourth quarter of 2005. Courier activities had a 15.2 per cent increase in the same period. Radio and television businesses went up by 17.9 per cent.

Solid year for cargo handling and storage

Supporting and auxiliary transport activities increased turnover by 10.2 per cent from 2005 to 2006. Cargo handling and storage activities had a 9 per cent increase in the same period. Travelling agencies went up by 4.9 per cent.

Preliminary figures

Figures for 4th quarter are based on data for October 2006. The sixth period are predicted using the growth from the 5th and 6th period the previous year. Beacause of this, figures are vulnerable for change.
