Continued rise in water- and air transport
The transport and tourism industries continued to grow in the second quarter. Total turnover in transport, storage and communication increased by 10.1 per cent between the second quarter of 2007 and the second quarter of 2008.
Transport by both air and water grew strongly in the second quarter this year. Compared to the second quarter of last year, turnover for water transport increased by 8.6 per cent, while the corresponding growth for air transport was 6.5 per cent. For the latter industry, this growth came especially in scheduled air transport, where turnover rose by 10.5 per cent.
Also good figures for land transport
Turnover for land transport and transport via pipelines increased by 12.5 per cent from the second quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2008. This growth occurred both on the railways and on roads; for instance, turnover for the group Other land transport (including taxi operation and freight transport by road) rose by 11.5 per cent.
A decline in tourism growth
Our numbers suggest that the growth in the tourism industry may be on the decline. For instance, turnover for restaurants increased by 3.7 percent between the second quarters of 2007 and 2008, while the corresponding growth for hotels dropped to 6.8 per cent.
Steady growth for post and telecommunications
Total turnover for the post and telecommunications industries rose by 7.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2008, compared to the same quarter in 2007. Particularly good results were observed for post and courier activities. After a period with modest growth, turnover in this industry group increased by 10 per cent in the second quarter.
Reorganisation of public transportationDue to reorganisation of public transportation in Oslo and Akershus, the figures in NACE 60.2 and NACE 63.2 are not comparable with previous years; they should also be regarded as preliminary. Preliminary figuresFigures for the 2nd quarter are based on data from the month of April. Figures for May and June are predicted using historical growth. Consequently, these figures are preliminary and are likely to change. |
