Steady growth in food service activities
Turnover continues to grow for establishments offering food and beverage service activities. Figures for the first quarter of 2010 show an increase in turnover of 1.4 per cent, compared to the same quarter in 2009.
This growth is most pronounced for restaurants and mobile food service activities, where turnover increased by 3.2 per cent from the first quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010. Figures from the Consumer Price Index suggest that this growth can be explained by an increase in the prices of such services. In contrast, the negative trend continues for establishments offering accommodation. For instance, hotels experienced a drop in turnover of 5.4 per cent in the first quarter this year compared to the same quarter last year.
Reduced turnover for transport by air
Air transport continues to face difficult times, with a drop in turnover of 8.8 per cent from the first quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010. Other industries in the transport sector, however, are showing some signs of progress. For instance, turnover increased by 0.3 per cent in Freight transport by road and removal services in the same period.
Modest growth in ICT
The information and communication sector experienced a growth in turnover in the first quarter. For example, establishments in the division Computer programming ; consultancy and related activities reported an increase of 1.9 per cent from the first quarter of last year. Our Price indices for information and communication suggest that this growth is mainly due to an increase in the quantity of such services.
Preliminary figuresFigures for the 1s t quarter are based on data for the months of January and February. Data for March are predicted using historical growth. Consequently, these figures are preliminary and subject to change. |
Reorganisation of public transportFigures for 2008 in NACE 49.3 and NACE 52.2 are not directly comparable to previous years due to a reorganisation of public transport in Oslo and Akershus. |
