Growth for food and beverage services
Value added in the division ‘Food and beverage service activities’ rose by 8.6 per cent from 2011, and was NOK 18.6 billion in 2012. The number of local KAUs was around 9 800 in 2012, which is an increase of around 300 and 4.3 per cent.

The sub-class ‘Operation of restaurant and cafes’ is the biggest sub-class in the division ‘Food and beverage service activities’, and its turnover rose by NOK 1.5 billion to NOK 30.2 billion in 2012. The gross operating surplus went up by 8.6 per cent to NOK 2.5 billion.
The turnover in the sub-class ‘Event catering activities’ increased from 2011 to 2012, and was NOK 120 million higher in 2012. This is an increase of 2.7 per cent. The value added went up almost NOK 200 million from 2011, and this corresponds to a growth of 9.8 per cent. Employment , however, fell by 280 persons in 2012, and around 5 000 persons were working in this sub-class during the year.
Growth for ‘Accommodation’
This division had a good year in 2012, and its turnover increased to NOK 24.8 billion; a growth of 5.7 per cent from 2011. The value added increased by more than NOK 520 million to over NOK 10.3 billion. Employment also went up, and just under 29 000 persons were employed in this division in 2012. This is 1 300 persons more than in 2011.
From 2011 to 2012, the value added in the sub-class went up by NOK 350 million to NOK 9 billion. However, 2012 was not a good year for the sub-class ‘Hotels and motels without restaurants’. The value added went down by 31.1 per cent to NOK 160 million, and with a decrease in employment of around 3.7 per cent, around 500 persons were working in the sub-class in 2012.
