High growth for hotels and restaurants
In 2006, the turnover in Norwegian hotels and restaurants increased by 9.4 per cent. The industry employed 2.9 per cent more people than in 2005.
The preliminary figures show that the industry had a turnover of almost NOK 47 billion, an increase of NOK 4 billion from 2005 to 2006.In 2006, the hotels and restaurants employed 83 000 people, 2 000 more than in 2005.
Good year for hotels
Enterprises in the hotel industry had a turnover of NOK 17 billion in 2006. This is NOK 1.5 billion more than in 2005, an increase of 9.5 per cent. At the same time the number of employees in the industry increased by only 1.4 per cent. Numbers from the accommodations statistics show that hotels had 3.9 per cent more guest-nights in 2006 than in 2005.
Increased turnover for fewer hotel enterprises
In 2006, the number of enterprises went down by over a hundred in the restaurant industry. Still the industry had an increase in turnover of 7.4 per cent. Over the year NOK 21.5 billion was spent in Norwegian restaurants. The restaurant industry is the largest subgroup in the hotel and restaurant industry, representing 47 per cent of total turnover and 55 per cent of total employment in the industry.
Preliminary figuresThe preliminary figures for number of enterprises, turnover and employment are published while data are still being revised and may therefore deviate somewhat from final results published at a later date. While preliminary figures are published on the enterprise level only, final results are published on both the enterprise level and the local kind-of-activity unit level. |
