Positive development for transport and storage in 2014
The production value for the transport and storage industry section rose by 8.0 per cent from 2013 to 2014 to NOK 386.6 billion, which was the largest production value ever.

Production value of local KAUs in the industry section 'transport and storage' amounted to NOK 386.6 billion in 2014; an increase of 8.0 per cent compared to 2013. Value added constituted NOK 145.4 billion in 2014, compared to NOK 144.4 billion in the preceding year. Gross operating surplus rose from NOK 60.9 billion to NOK 61.4 billion in the same period. The number of employees was 154 800, equivalent to an increase of 1.3 per cent. All local KAUs totalled 22 000; a decrease of 1.8 per cent compared with the previous year.
Solid growth for sea and coastal freight water transport
The industry group 'sea and coastal freight water transport' had good results in 2014. Value added totalled NOK 50.9 billion; an increase of 9.7 per cent compared with the previous year. In the same period, production value went up to NOK 143.1 billion, which is 11.2 per cent more than the year before. Gross operating surplus also rose, ending at NOK 30.9 billion; an increase of 11.9 per cent.
Stable results for land transport
The industry group 'freight transport by road and removal services' was by far the largest group within land transport, with NOK 49.7 billion in operating income. This corresponds to a 2.8 per cent rise from 2013. Value added increased by 4.1 per cent to NOK 18.2 billion. Firms in the industry group 'interurban passenger rail transport' also had a good year in 2014. The production value rose to NOK 4.7 billion; an increase of 9.2 per cent from the previous year.
Warehousing and support activities for transportation showed good growth
In 2014, the industry group ‘warehousing and support activities for transportation' had a turnover of NOK 98.5 billion. This was an increase of 6.2 per cent from the previous year. Gross operating surplus amounted to NOK 16.1 billion; 4.7 per cent more than in 2013. The number of employees was 30 200, about the same as in the previous year.
More employees in postal and courier activities
For the first time since 2007 the number of employees in 'postal and courier activities' rose in 2014. Growth was 1.6 per cent compared with the previous year and accounted for 20 000 employees. Operating income increased by 1.6 per cent from the previous year, to NOK 16.7 billion.
