Imports of ICT goods increased by 21per cent

Imports of ICT goods amounted NOK 36.1 billion in 2004. This is an increase of 21 per cent compared with 2003. Exports of ICT goods increased by 8.5 per cent to NOK 13.1 billion. Imports and exports of ICT goods made up 11.3 and 5.8 per cent of total imports and exports of traditional commodities in 2004.

The statistics comprise the product group telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, computers, electronic components, office machines and measurement and control equipment. Exports and imports of ICT services (for example software) are not part of this statistics. Exports of traditional commodities comprise all commodities exclusive of ships, oil platforms, crude oil, natural gas and condensates. Imports of traditional commodities comprise all commodities exclusive of ships and oil platforms. Preliminary figures from the External trade in goods constitute the foundation for the article. In 2004, imports of ICT goods amounted NOK 36.1 billion. This is an increase of 20.9 per cent compared with 2004 and an increase of 5.6 per cent compared to the peak years 2000 and 2001. In 2004, a positive development in exports of ICT goods resulted in an 8.5 per cent increase to NOK 13.1 billion. However, this is still lower than in 2001, when exports of ICT goods amounted to NOK 15.2 billion.

Exports of ICT goods comprised 5.8 per cent of total exports of traditional commodities in 2004. This is the lowest figure that has been registered in the period 1996 to 2004, and 1.2 percentage points lower than in 2001, when exports of ICT goods comprised 7 per cent of total exports of traditional commodities. Imports of ICT goods comprised 11.3 per cent of total imports of traditional commodities in 2004. This is almost on level with the average for the period 1996 to 2004.
