Exports of Crude Oil give Record Surplus

The Norwegian trade surplus in goods reached a new record high of 20.4 billion kroner in August. The exports of crude oil and natural gas amounted to 27.0 billion kroner and traditional goods to 17.3 billion in August. Imports came to 23.9 billion.

The accumulated trade surplus for January through August was 138 billion kroner, compared with 40 billion during the same period last year. The most important reason for the high figures is high oil prices.

The overseas exports increased by nearly 18 per cent to the USA and 28 per cent to Canada and by a more modest 5.3 per cent to Japan.

The figures are exclusive of ships and mobile oil platforms, the same as traditional goods on the import side. For exports, traditional goods are also exclusive of crude oil and natural gas.
