Traditional exports increased

Exports of traditional goods came to NOK 18.7 billion in June, an increase of 2.5 per cent compared with June of last year. The export value of crude oil, condensates and natural gas was 22.9 billion whereas imports ended at 22.8 billion.

In the month of June 73 billion barrels of crude oil were exported. With an average price of NOK 254 per barrel, this gave an export value of 18.7 billion. The price as well as the quantity were somewhat higher in June last year. The import value of traditional goods in June this year was up by 250 million more, 1.1 per cent higher than in 2000.

In the seasonally adjusted figures, traditional commodity imports show an increase of 5.5 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year. Traditional exports increased by 6.3 per cent.

January - June 2001: High value of oil and gas export

Exports of crude oil amounted to 123.1 billion in the first six months. Last year this figure was 114.9 billion. So far this year price as well as quantity have shown only a slight increase compared with the same period last year. The value of exported natural gas has increased by 18.9 per cent to 24.1 billion the first six months. The total export value came to 263.3 billion against 239.7 last year, an increase of 9.8 per cent. The value of traditional imports rose by 8.1 per cent - from 133.5 billion to 144.2 billion. Thereby the trade surplus for this period came to 119.0 billion, an increase of 12.8 billion or 12.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Increase in exports of machinery, chemical products and fish

Exports of traditional goods amounted to 112.2 billion compared with 104.5 billion in the corresponding period last year. The groups machinery, chemical products and fish have contributed the most to this increase.

Increase in imports of machinery, road vehicles and electric energy

Several commodity groups have contributed to the growth in imports during the first six months. Among the group machinery with a total import value of 37.5 billion, the largest items contributing were electric machinery, office machines and telecommunication equipment, all of them with an increase from 430 to 850 million. The value of the group road vehicles increased by one billion and has therefore ended at 13.5 billion.The import value of electric energy was to 1.3 billion. Last year the imports came to NOK 86 billion. Imports of petroleum products have also increased, to 4.5 billion.
