Lower Trade Surplus

Norwegian exports of goods in February came to NOK 37.4 billion and imports to 22.1 billion. Exports decreased by 10.0 per cent and imports by 2.9 per cent compared with February of last year. The trade surplus for the month amounted to NOK 15.3 billion.

Exports of crude petroleum-crude oil natural gas and condensates-came to NOK 21.1 billion, a decrease of 10.2 per cent compared with February last year. For the first time since 1988 natural gas now accounts for more than one third of the value of the crude petroleum exports.

Exports of traditional goods amounted to NOK 16.3 billion in February, 1.7 billion or 9.6 per cent less than in February last year. Adjusted for seasonality, the export value for traditional goods increased by 2.1 per cent and the import value by 0.1 per cent from January to February. For the three-month period from December to February exports declined by 2.6 per cent and imports by 2.4 per cent compared with the previous three-month period.

Adjusted for seasonality, the export value for metals decreased by 4.8 per cent from January to February, whilst metals except iron and steel decreased by 2.9 per cent.

The accumulated exports of fish for January and February amounted to NOK 4.7 billion, a decrease of 9.8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The figures are exclusive of ships and mobile oil platforms, the same as for traditional goods on the import side. For exports, traditional goods are also exclusive of crude oil, natural gas and condensates.
