Export value continues to decline

Norway exported goods for NOK 40.0 billion in October, a decrease of 10.3 per cent compared with October last year. The import value this month was 24.9 billion. This brings the trade surplus for October to NOK 15.1 billion.

An explanation for the decrease is the total export value of crude oil, NOK 16.4 billion in October this year, a decrease of 3.3 billion from October 2001. Exported barrels of crude oil were considerably down, 100 million barrels in October last year compared with 78 million in October this year. The average price per barrel was up, NOK 211 per barrel in October this year opposed to NOK 194 last year. The export value of natural gas increased to NOK 6.1 billion in October 2002.

In the first ten months Norway has exported goods for NOK 392 billion and imported for 223 billion. Both the export and import value are down compared with January - October last year, 10.6 and 6.5 per cent respectively.
