Traditional exports increased

Exports of traditional goods came to NOK 15.3 billon in July, an increase of 4.5 per cent compared with July last year. The export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates was 21.0 billion, whereas total imports came to 21.9 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of 14.4 billion in July.

Last month the export value of crude oil was NOK 16.0 billion. This is a decline of one billion compared with July last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 205, compared with 192 in July last year. The amount of crude oil barrels exported decreased considerably, 77.7 million against 87.8 million in July last year. The export value of natural gas was NOK 4.9 billon in July this year. Compared with July last year, this is an increase of 14.7 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Seasonally adjusted figures for exports of crude oil, natural gas and condensates show a decline of 17.9 per cent from February to April compared with figures from May to July this year. Similar figures for traditional imports for last three months show an increase of 1.2 per cent compared with the period February to April.

Increased exports of metals and chemical products

Exports of traditional goods amounted to NOK 15.3 billion, up 660 million compared with July 2002. When comparing July this year to July last year only minor changes in export value were registered for many of the main groups. Among the groups with increased export value were metals, except iron and steel (400 million), other chemical products (480 million) and other final products (160 million).

Increased traditional imports

Imports of traditional goods in July came to NOK 21.9 billion, compared with to 21.3 billion in July last year. A considerable contribution to the increased import value came from metalliferrous ores (400 million). Among other groups showing increased imports were other chemical products and electric current. Imports of furniture and imports of clothing have also increased compared with July last year.
