Increased imports - less surplus

Imports in September this year came to NOK 24.8 billion, up 12.1 per cent from September last year. Exports were 38.4 billion, a slight increase from 2002. This reduced the surplus from 16.1 billion in September 2002 to 13.6 in 2003.

The increase in imports was 2.7 billion compared with September last year. Exports of traditional goods increased by 0.6 billion, whereas crude oil and natural gas decreased by 0.5 billion. Exports of crude oil and condensates decreased by 2.7 billion, and counterbalanced an increase in exports of natural gas of 2.2 billion.

More cars imported

Imports of cars were NOK 470 million or 23.2 per cent higher than in September of last year. Comparing January-September 2002 and 2003 gives a 6 per cent increase. Also the figures on metalliferous ores and metal scrap went up in September by 353 million, and industrial and electrical machinery and equipment by 374 million.

Less fish exported

Exports of fish decreased by 311 million in September compared with figures from September last year, and exports of electric current came to 124 million less. Exports of chemicals increased by 483 million, iron and steel by 223 million and exports of other metals still more - 552 million - compared with the corresponding month last year.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Seasonally adjusted figures for the last three months show an increase of 1.8 per cent for imports and 1.3 for exports. The value of exports of traditional goods went down 0.6 per cent.
