Traditional exports increased

Exports of traditional goods came to NOK 20.3 billon in October, an increase of 13.0 per cent compared with October last year. The export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates was 23.4 billion, whereas imports ended at 26.7 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of 17.4 billion in October.

In October, the export value of crude oil came to NOK 16.0 billion. This is an increase of 800 million compared with October last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 210, compared with NOK 206 in October last year. The amount of crude oil exported was slightly up in the same period, 76.2 million compared with 73.7 million. The export value of natural gas was NOK 6.6 billon in October this year. Compared with October last year, this is a decrease of 0.7 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Seasonally adjusted figures for exports of crude oil, natural gas and condensates increased by 5.5 per cent from May to July compared with figures from August to October this year. Similar figures for traditional exports for the last threes months, show an increase of 2.4 per cent compared with the period from August to October. Making the same comparison for traditional imports, the seasonally adjusted figures show an increase of 2.1 per cent.

Exports - more oil products, metals and machinery

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 20.3 billion in October. We have not had the same kind of export value since November 2000. In October last year the export value was 17.9 billion. Compared with October this year, we find an increase in the export value for several product groups. The increase was largest for refined mineral products, 900 million, metals excluding steel, 535 million, and various groups of machinery. Exports of aluminum contributed the most, with an increase in volume as well as in price.

Increase in imports of machinery, cars and ores

In October we imported traditional goods for NOK 26.7 billion compared with 26.3 in October of 2002.

In October, the import value for road vehicles increased by NOK 400 million. We imported 14 000 private vehicles last month compared with 12 000 in October last year. Imports of clothing amounted to NOK 1.2 billion, an increase of 100 million from last year.
