Increased imports of goods

Imports of goods came to NOK 24.4 billon in February, an increase of 14.4 per cent compared with February last year. The export value of traditional goods ended at 17.1 billion, whereas the export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates was 26.4 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of 19.2 billion in February.

In February the export value of crude oil came to NOK 19.2 billion. This is an increase of 580 million compared with February last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 215, compared with NOK 232 in February last year. The number of crude oil barrels exported was up, 89.2 million compared with 80.3 million. The export value of natural gas ended at NOK 6.3 billion in February this year, slightly up from February last year.

Seasonally adjusted figures: Imports up, exports down

Seasonally adjusted figures for imports of traditional goods show an increase of 0.7 per cent from September to November 2003 compared with figures from December to February this year. Corresponding figures for traditional exports for the last three months, show a decrease of 3.0 per cent compared with the period September to November last year.

Increase in imports of machinery, cars and ores

Imports of traditional goods came to NOK 24.4 billion in February, compared with 21.3 billion in February last year. A considerable contribution to the increased import value came from road vehicles

(525 million). In the two first months this year we have imported 23 600 passenger cars, compared with 19 800 in the same period last year. For machinery - electrical machinery, office machines and machinery for special industries show an increase in the import value from 210 to 270 million each. The import vale of metalliferous ores was up with 250 million.

Exports - more metals and machinery

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 17.2 billion in February, an increase of 1.4 billion from February last year. Non-ferrous metals contributed the most,+ 800 million. Considerably higher prices of nickel and aluminum contributed the most.

Among machinery and transport equipment, the export value increased the most for machinery for special industries, +120 million and other transport equipment, + 110 million. In the last category there was an export of large aircraft for 100 million in February. In February last year there was no such exports.
