High exports of traditional goods

Exports of traditional goods came to NOK 22.9 billion in September - an increase of 9.8 per cent compared with September 2004. The total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates was NOK 34.1 billion - also a considerable increase. With an import value of NOK 30.5 billion, the trade surplus in September ended at NOK 26.5 billion - an increase of NOK 6.8 billion compared with September last year.

Imports of traditional goods do not include ships and oil platforms. Exports of traditional goods do not include crude oil, natural gas and condensates, ships and oil platforms.

The export value of crude oil came to NOK 25.2 billion. This is an increase of NOK 3.3 billion compared with September last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 403, against NOK 299 in September last year. The number of exported barrels was much lower, however, at 62.5 million compared with 73.4 million. The export value of natural gas last month ended at NOK 7.9 billion, an increase of a good NOK 3.3 billion.

Seasonally adjusted figures: imports and exports up

Seasonally adjusted figures show a 6.6 per cent increase in imports of traditional goods for the third quarter compared with the second quarter this year. Corresponding figures for traditional exports for the last two quarters show a 3.7 per cent increase.

Exports - oil products, metals and machinery

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 22.9 billion in September, an increase of NOK 2.0 billion from September last year. The value of refined mineral oil products increased by NOK 1.3 billion and ended at NOK 3.1 billion in September 2005. Both volumes and prices - the latter in particular - increased for the main products in this group. The export value of butane, propane and electric current also increased compared with September last year.

For metals except iron and steel, the export value increased by NOK 430 million to NOK 3.4 billion, while there was a decrease in the export value of iron and steel of NOK 155 million to NOK 810 million. For the group machinery as a whole the export value increased by NOK 380 million. The total export value for this group ended at NOK 4.2 billion in September. Power generating machinery had the largest increase with NOK 130 million. The other groups of machinery showed minor changes.

The export value of fish increased by NOK 265 million and ended at NOK 3.0 billion last month.

Increase in imports of machinery, metals and chemical products

Imports of traditional goods came to NOK 30.5 billion, an increase of NOK 2.1 billion compared with September 2004. The main group machinery and transport equipment showed an increase of NOK 0.9 billion from September last year. The total import value for this group was NOK 11.1 billion in September 2005. Power generating machinery, machinery specialized for particular industries, general industrial machinery, telecommunications apparatus, and road vehicles all saw an increase in import value between NOK 100 and NOK 230 million.

The import value of iron and steel increased by NOK 265 million and ended at NOK 1.4 billion. For manufactures of metals the total import value was NOK 1.4 billion, an increase of NOK 230 million from September last year.

The total import value of chemical products was NOK 3.0 billion in September, an increase of NOK 270 million.
