Trade surplus - NOK 29.2 billion

Exports of goods came to NOK 58.0 billion in February - an increase of 18.7 per cent compared with February 2005. With an import value of NOK 28.9 billion the trade surplus in February ended at NOK 29.2 billion - an increase of NOK 6.8 billion compared with February last year.

Last month we exported 58.9 million barrels of crude oil, as to 70.4 million in February 2005. During the last five years the amount of barrels exported has never been below 60 million in one single month. The export value of crude oil in February came to NOK 23.7 billion. This is an increase of NOK 3.2 billion compared with February last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 402, against NOK 291 in February last year. The export value of natural gas last month ended at NOK 10.2 billion, an increase of as much as NOK 2.8 billion.

Seasonally adjusted figures: reduced trade in February

Seasonally adjusted figures show a 4.5 per cent increase in imports of goods, excluding ships and oil platforms, for the period December 2005 to February 2006 compared with the previous three months period. Corresponding figures for the last two months show a decrease of 2.4 per cent from January to February this year.

Exports of goods excluding crude oil, natural gas, condensates, ships and oil platforms show a 9.1 per cent increase in seasonally adjusted figures for the last two three months periods. Corresponding figures for the last two months show a 0.7 per cent decrease.

Exports - oil products and machinery

The export value of goods excluding crude oil, natural gas, condensates, ships and oil platforms was NOK 22.7 billion in February, an increase of NOK 2.9 billion from February last year. The value of refined mineral oil products increased by NOK 1.6 billion and ended at NOK 3.0 billion in February 2006. The export values of butanes, propane and electric current had also increased compared with February last year.

For the group machinery as a whole the export value increased by NOK 340 million. The total export value for this group ended at NOK 3.9 billion in February. The largest increase showed general industrial machinery by NOK 130 million. The other groups of machinery showed minor changes.

The export value of fish increased by NOK 180 million and ended at NOK 2.9 billion last month.

Increase in imports of machinery and chemical products

Imports of goods excluding ships and oil platforms came to NOK 28.9 billion, an increase of NOK 2.4 billion compared with February 2005. The main group machinery and transport equipment showed an increase of NOK 1.5 billion from February last year. Total import value for this group was NOK 11.1 billion in February 2005. Power generating machinery, machinery specialized for particular industries, general industrial machinery, telecommunications apparatus and electrical machinery all saw an increase in import value between NOK 150 and NOK 550 million.

The import value of iron and steel decreased by NOK 290 million and ended at NOK 960 million. For manufactures of metals the total import value was NOK 1.5 billion, an increase of NOK 450 million from February last year.

The total import value of chemical products was NOK 2.9 billion in February, an increase of NOK 150 million.
