NOK 33.4 billion surplus

Norwegian imports came to NOK 33.3 billion in June, while exports came to NOK 66.7 billion. The trade surplus amounting to NOK 33.4 billion was significantly higher than in June last year.

The export value of crude oil came to NOK 28.2 billion in June. The average price per barrel was NOK 425. The number of barrels sold increased by 4.8 million while the average price increased by NOK 74. Exports of gas were NOK 10 billion, a considerable increase compared to NOK 6 billion in June 2005.

In the first six months of 2006, Norway's exports of oil were NOK 163.9 billion, 25 per cent higher than in the same period last year. Corresponding figures for exports of gas were NOK 77.6 billion 60 per cent higher.

Increase in seasonally adjusted export

Seasonally adjusted figures for export goods excluding crude oil, natural gas, condensates, ships and oil platforms show an increase of 6.0 per cent from May to June. The cause of this is a jump in exports of fish. For the last three months the export is up by 5.3 per cent compared with the previous period. During this period there has been a growth in exports of fish and metals.

Corresponding figures for imports (all goods except from ships and oil platforms) for the last three months show a 4.2 per cent decline, compared with the January to March period. Though there is an increase of 3.0 per cent from May to June.

Increased imports, declining growth in the import of cars

The value of imports excluding ships and oil platforms rose by a more than NOK 2.4 billion compared with June 2005. Imports of the product group machinery and transport equipment rose by NOK 823 million (6.7 per cent), chemical products by NOK 413 million (13.1 per cent), miscellaneous manufactures articles by NOK 384 million (9.5 per cent). Imports of iron and steel experienced a fall of NOK 401 million (23.1 per cent) compared to last June.

Imports were almost NOK 22.2 billion, or 13.2 per cent, higher in the first six months than in 2005. Machinery and transport equipment had the highest increase by almost NOK 9.7 billion. General industrial and power generating machinery contributed to more than half the growth.

Car imports is still rising , though the growth measured in NOK reduced by 50 per cent compared to last year. Moreover manufactured goods makes for more than NOK 4 billion of the total increase.

The imports of miscellaneous manufactures articles jumped by almost NOK 3 billion, manufactures of metals by NOK 2.3 billion and iron and steel by NOK 1.3 billion.

Rise in exports of refined oil products

Exports excluding crude oil, natural gas, condensates, ships and oil platforms rose by more than NOK 6.0 billion in June compared with June last year. Exports of refined oil products was NOK 2.5 billion, almost 150 per cent as much as the same month last year. Furthermore exports of fish was NOK 883, 44 per cent higher than last year.

Norway's exports of goods increased by almost NOK 24 billion, or 19,7 per cent, compared with the first six months of 2005. As for the June figures the refined oil products have the biggest impact on the growth, with a rise of NOK 8.9 billion. Exports of other metals than iron and steel went up by more than NOK 5 billion, while iron and steel faced a drop of NOK 2.5 billion. The increase of fish exports came to almost NOK 2.5 billion.
