Growth in November external trade

Imports of goods came to NOK 40.7 billion in November, a rise of 26 per cent compared with November last year Exports gained 14 per cent and reached NOK 65.8 billion. The trade surplus for November thus came to NOK 25.1 billion.

The total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 37 billion in November. Exported value of crude oil alone came to NOK 24.2 billion. Natural gas and condensates reached NOK 12.5 billion and NOK 260 million respectively. The crude oil price average climbed from NOK 371 in November last year, to NOK 377 per barrel November this year.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Seasonally adjusted figures show a 0.3 per cent drop in exports of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas in the period September to November 2006 compared with the previous three-month period. Corresponding figures show a 3.0 per cent advance from October to November this year.

Similar figures for imports excluding ships and oil platforms show an 8.0 per cent increase in the period September to November, and a 6.0 per cent increase from October to November.

Increased exports of fish and simports of machines

The export value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas came to NOK 28.9 billion in November. This is an advance of 25.6 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year.

Several products contribute to the rise in export value in November. The export value of fish reached NOK 3.9 billion, up 9.5 per cent. Fish exports to November this year reached NOK 31.6 billion, which exceeds the total export value for last year at NOK 31.4 billion.

The export value of non-ferrous metals came to NOK 5.1 billion, up 77.3 percent. The export value of propane and butanes reached NOK 1.3 billion, up 8.1 per cent compared with the same period last year. Also, the export value of general industrial machinery increased by 49.3 per cent, or NOK 466 million, in November this year.

Imports of goods excluding ships and oil platforms came to NOK 40.7 billion in November 2006. This equals a rise of NOK 8.3 billion, or 25.6 per cent from November 2005.

The rise in import value is also explained by growth in metalliferous ores and metal scrap, which leaped from NOK 1.3 billion in November 2005 to NOK 3.4 billion in November 2006. This increase can be attributed to a 28.6 per cent growth in electrical machinery, ending at NOK 2.2 billion, while general industrial machinery came to NOK 2.1 billion, an increase of 25.2 per cent in November 2006. Telecommunications apparatus reached NOK 1.9 billion, an advance of 20.8 per cent.
