High oil price - high trade surplus

Exports of goods reached NOK 78.7 billion in June, while imports came to NOK 41.6 billion. The trade surplus in goods came to NOK 37.1 billion. High crude oil prices contributed to the trade surplus in June.

In June the total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates ended at NOK 48.1 billion. Exported value of crude oil and natural gas came to NOK 35.9 and 11.6 billion respectively. The average crude oil price went up from NOK 440 per barrel in June last year, to NOK 701 per barrel June this year, an increase of 60 per cent. Compared with May figures, the average crude oil price advanced 10 per cent.

The export value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas in June reached NOK 30.6 billion, compared with NOK 31.9 billion in June last year,a decline of 4.2 per cent. Exports of manufactured goods came to NOK 7.5 billion, a decline of NOK 2.4 billion from June last year. Non-ferrous metals ended at NOK 4.1 billion, a decrease of NOK 1.6 billion. Exports of iron and steel reached NOK 1.6 billion, an increase of NOK 409 million compared with June last year.

In June, imports of goods excluding ships and oil platforms came to NOK 41.6 billion, compared with NOK 38.8 billion in June 2007. Several commodity groups contributed to the rise in imports. The group machinery and transport equipment reached NOK 16.9 billion. The import value within in this commodity group is supported by road vehicles and general industrial machinery ending at NOK 4.4 and 2.9 billion, respectively.
