Fall in exports
Goods worth NOK 69.9 billion were exported in November, while imports represented NOK 38.5 billion. With a 9 per cent fall from last month, the export figures continued to weaken. The trade surplus in goods ended at NOK 31.4 billion.
In November 2008, the export value of crude oil was NOK 22.4 billion. This represented a 14.4 per cent fall compared with last November and a 13.6 per cent fall from last month. The average crude oil price was NOK 380 per barrel in November and NOK 512 in November 2007. The fall in crude oil prices was to some extent counteracted by an increase in exports of natural gas reaching NOK 17.6 billion in November. This is an increase of approximately 25 per cent from November last year, when exports were NOK 14 billion.

The export value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas reached NOK 29 billion in November - compared with NOK 31.1 billion in November 2007. The export of non-ferrous metals has fallen approximately 20 per cent in the last 12 months, ending at NOK 3.6 billion in November 2008. The export value of machinery and transport equipment increased from NOK 6.2 billion in November 2007 to 6.6 billion in November 2008, while the corresponding figures for chemicals and related products went from NOK 3.5 billion to 4 billion.
Imports of goods excluding ships and oil platforms were NOK 38.5 billion in November, compared with NOK 40.9 billion in the same month last year. The 5.9 per cent decrease was to some extent caused by a reduction in the import of machinery and transport equipment. The import of road vehicles was NOK 3 billion this November, while the corresponding figure for last year was NOK 4.5 billion. Manufactured goods also showed a fall, from NOK 6.7 billion in November 2007 to NOK 6.2 billion in November 2008.
