Lower export volumes

The volume indices for export of traditional goods show a decrease of 4.2 per cent compared with figures from the corresponding quarter last year. The development shows that export of fish, crude rubber, cork and wood has decreased.

The decrease in the volume indices for export of traditional goods is mainly due to a decrease of 9 per cent in the group food and live animals as well as a decrease of 16 per cent in the group crude materials, in edibles, except fuels. The figures show that for the first time since the corresponding quarter in 2000 we are exporting less.

Compared with the corresponding quarter in 2000 the volume indices for export of traditional goods have decreased by 4.2 per cent. This decrease can be related to lower imports in the group food and live animals by 5.4 per cent such as for instance fish.

Lower import prices and volumes

The import price index of traditional goods shows a decrease of 3.2 per cent from the second quarter of 2001. This is mainly due to lower prices of dairy products and eggs (3 per cent) as well as vegetables and fruit (7 per cent). In addition to this the prices of petroleum, petroleum products and related material (4 per cent) and electric current (15 per cent) are lower.

Adjusted for seasonality the volume index shows a decrease of 0.5 per cent.

3rd quarter 2000 - 3rd quarter 2001

Export price of traditional goods were 3 per cent lower than in the corresponding quarter of 2000, the main factor being lower prices of petroleum, petroleum products and related material.

The volume index of imports of traditional goods shows a decrease of 3.2 per cent, and again it is low import of petroleum that is the main reason for this.
