Largest growth for motor vehicles and motorcycles in five years

Turnover in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles grew by 9.3 per cent from 2014 to 2015. This is the strongest growth in the industry since 2010.

Turnover developments in the retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles have been very varied during the period 2008-2015. After two years of declining sales as a result of the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009, the industry experienced strong growth in both 2010 and 2011, with 12.9 and 8.8 per cent respectively. In the last three years, however, the industry has had a moderate and stable growth in turnover of between 2 and 3 per cent a year. In 2015, the industry again experienced strong growth and total turnover amounted to NOK 218 billion.

Among the three industries within Wholesale and retail trade, retail trade has had the most stable revenue development in recent years, the industry had a turnover of 473 billion; an increase of 2.5 per cent compared to the previous year. In the same period, wholesale trade revenue increased by 1.6 per cent, to NOK 837 billion.

In general, there was a slight increase in the number of enterprises and number of employed persons in the Wholesale and retail trade industries from 2014 to 2015. In total, wholesale and retail trade consisted of 50 607 enterprises in 2015.
