Consumption of wine increased by 1.7 litres

In 2002 each inhabitant of Norway older than 14 years consumed in average 15.2 litres of wine, which is 1.7 litres more than in 2001. Total consumption of wine in 2002 was 55 million litres, a growth of 6.4 million litres compared with 2001.

The total consumption of spirits in Norway amounted to 10.2 million litres last year, an increase of 1.1 million litres or 12.1 per cent from 2001. This is the largest increase since 1985. In 2002 the total consumption of beer was 236.4 million litres. With the exception of 1997, this is the highest consumption of beer in Norway ever. From 2001 to 2002 the consumption of beer rose by 6.7 million litres or 2.9 per cent.

5.9 litres of alcohol per capita

Each inhabitant of Norway older than 14 years consumed 5.9 litres of alcohol last year, an increase of 0.4 litres of alcohol compared with 2001.
