Easter influenced sales of alcohol
The registered turnover of alcoholic beverages was considerably higher in the first quarter this year compared with the same period last year, and this was for a large part due to Easter.
Last week before Easter was in March this year, while it was in April last year. Thus, the sales of alcohol in the first quarter were higher in 2007 compared with 2006.
Registered turnover of spirits, wine and beer rose by 13.7, 13.0 and 11.2 per cent receptively compared with the same period last year.
In litres the turnover of beer rose by 5.8 million litres, wine with 1.8 million litres and spirits with 337 000 litres from the first quarter 2006 to the first quarter in 2007. The turnover of alcopops rose by 189 000 litres, or 10.7 per cent.
1.47 litres pure alcohol
Measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over drank an average of 1.47 litres during the first quarter of 2007. This is an increase of 0.15 litres or 11.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2006.
The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad. |
