Late Easter caused lower alcohol sales

The registered turnover of alcoholic beverages was lower in the first quarter this year than in the same period last year. The decline is related to the placing of Easter in the calendar year.

While most of the Easter holiday was in March last year, it was in April this year. This resulted in lower sales in the first quarter this year compared to the same period last year.

Beer and alco pops dropped the least, with 6.3 and 5.9 per cent respectively from the first quarter last year to the first quarter this year. Spirits and wine had a decrease in turnover with 12.0 and 9.3 per cent respectively in the same period.

1.43 litres of alcohol per person

Each person aged 15 and over drank an average of 1.23 litres of pure alcohol in the first quarter of this year. That is 0.13 litres less than in the same period last year. The total registered turnover in the first quarter this year was 5.3 million litres of pure alcohol.
