Petrol stations sold for NOK 38 billion

A brand new turnover statistics for petrol stations shows that the Norwegians primarily use the petrol stations to refuel or take care of their cars. On the other hand, the petrol stations also sell everyday commodities, fast food, music, videos and telephone cars for a considerable amount.

Statistics Norway publishes for the first time a turnover statistics for petrol stations in Norway. It shows that the petrol stations sold for NOK 37.9 billion in 2005. The turnover for everyday commodities and food service counts respectively NOK 5.3 and 1.9 billion. Put together, this is NOK 7.2 billion.

The sale of car equipment was NOK 882 million, while the turnover for workshop service and car wash was NOK 725 million. Renting service and games/commission came to an amount of respectively NOK 116 and 190 million. The turnover for car fuel and lubricants makes the biggest part of the total turnover for petrol stations and counted NOK 27.4 billion in 2005. In addition, the sale of other goods was NOK 1.3 billion. “Other goods” includes leisure and seasonal goods, music, video sales, products of telecommunication, telephone cards, propane, gas and paraffin.

10 per cent growth so far this year

The turnover for Petrol stations the first four months of 2006 was NOK 12.4 billion. This is a growth of 10.0 per cent compared to the same period in 2005. The turnover for car fuel and lubricants had a growth of NOK 1.1 billion.

In percent, the product groups games/commission and renting had the strongest growth by respectively 41.5 and 20.9 per cent, while the turnover for car equipment, everyday commodities and other goods declined by respectively 3.8, 1.8 and 5.4 per cent in this period.

Food and workshop service had both a growth of more than 7 per cent the four first months, compared to the same period last year.

The statistics will be published monthly and shows the turnover for petrol stations distributed by eight product groups. The first time publication includes data from January 2005 to April 2006.
