Increase in investments
The investments of retail trade industries increased by 19 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter this year, and are about 40 per cent higher than the third quarter last year.
Investments in new buildings and renovations increased by more than 35 per cent from the second to the third quarter this year, and compared to the third quarter last year, the increase was above 30 per cent. Retailers invested 17 per cent more in machines and inventory in the third quarter this year than in the second quarter. These investments are at a substantially higher level than last year. Investments in motor vehicles and other means of transport on the other hand showed a decrease in both the periods.

About the industryThe retail sales industry, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, but including repair of personal and household goods, had a turnover of approximately NOK 400 billion in 2010. The number of persons employed was 214 100, while the number of establishments was nearly 37 400, according to previously published figures from Statistics Norway's structural statistics for wholesale and retail trade for 2009. Net investments for this industry group amounted to NOK 5.2 billion in 2010. |
