Norwegians exercise more
In 1999 Norwegians spent almost NOK 1 132 million on physical well-being activities. This is a 38 per cent increase from 1998. Employment in these businesses rose by 41 per cent to 4 507 persons in the same period.
The number of businesses and employment in hairdressing and other beauty treatment has been nearly unchanged from 1998 to 1999, turnover however grew by 10 per cent to NOK 3 893 million.
425 units in washing and dry-cleaning businesses had a total turnover of NOK 1 454 million. This is a 7 per cent rise from the previous year. The number of persons employed in these businesses increased by 7 per cent to 3 173.
The turnover in funeral and related activities grew by NOK 33.5 million or 5 per cent. These businesses saw little change in employment.
Sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities had a growth in turnover by 23 per cent to NOK 4 602 million in 1999. Employment rose by 7 per cent to 3 921 persons.
