Growth in physical well-being activities

Norwegians spent almost NOK 1.5 billion on physical well-being activities in the year 2000, a 29 per cent increase from 1999. Employment in the same businesses rose by 16 per cent to 5083 persons over the same period.

6 478 businesses in hairdressing and other beauty treatment had a total turnover of NOK 4 253 million in 2000, 9 per cent more than the year before. Employment increased by 6 per cent to 14 320 persons from 1999 to 2000.

3 043 employees in washing and dry-cleaning businesses had a turnover of NOK 1 469 million in 2000, this is nearly unchanged from 1999.

Turnover in funeral and related activities grew by 10 per cent to NOK 709 million, employment rose by 12 per cent to 841 persons from 1999 to 2000.

Sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities had a growth in turnover of 8 per cent to NOK 4 970 million in 2000. Employment rose by 6 per cent to 4 151 persons compared with 1999.
