More money on hairdressing

In 2001 Norwegians spent NOK 4.5 billion on hairdressing and other beauty treatment, a six per cent increase from the previous year. Employment in these businesses rose by four per cent to 13 776 people over the same period.

There where 6 582 local-kind-of-activity-units (KAUs) in hairdressing and other beauty treatment in 2001. This is an increase of two per cent from 2000.

Growth in physical well-being activities

The 980 local KAUs in physical well-being activities had a turnover of NOK 1 541 million and employed 4 989 people in 2001, an increase from 2000 of respectively five and four per cent.

NOK 1.5 billion turnover in washing and dry-cleaning activities

There were 409 local KAUs in the washing and dry-cleaning-businesses in 2001, two per cent fewer than in 2000. These local KAUs had a total turnover of NOK 2 521 million in 2001. This is an increase of NOK 52 million from 2000. There were 2 922 people employed in washing and dry-cleaning activities in 2001.

It was 323 local KAUs in funeral and related activities in 2001. In 2000 the number was 320. The local KAUs had a total turnover of NOK 748 million in 2001, an increase of five per cent from 2000, and employed 849 people.

Sewage and refuse disposal

758 local KAUs in sewage and refuse disposal employed 4 938 persons and had a total turnover of NOK 6 453 million in 2001, an increase from 2000 of respectively three and seven per cent.

Because some of the local KAUs that earlier where placed in division 37, Recycling, have been reclassified to 90, Sewage and refuse disposal, figures for 2000 deviate from previously published ones.
