In 2005, the industry hairdressing and other beauty treatment had a turnover increase of 7.5 per cent compared with 2004. The numbers of local-kind-of-activity units (KAUs) and employees rose as well in the same period.

The industry hairdressing and other beauty treatment had a turnover of NOK 5.8 billion in 2005. In the same year, the total number of local-kind-of-activity-units (KAUs) in the industry was 6 995, an increase of 2.7 per sent compared with 2004. In total, they employed 14 895 persons, an increase of 1.5 per cent. Compensation of employees was NOK 2.1 billion, and the gross investments were approximately NOK 157 million.

Continuing growth within Physical well-being

The 1 150 local KAUs in the physical well-being industry had an increase of 12.5 per cent, ending up with a total of NOK 2.2 billion in 2005. This growth rate was similar to the one from 2003 to 2004. The employment in the industry was 4 894 persons, while total compensation of employees was almost NOK 675 million.

Washing and dry-cleaning

The washing and dry-cleaning industry counted 344 local KAUs, a decrease of 4.2 per sent. The turnover rose by 1.1 per sent. The employment continued to decrease, this year by 3.7 per sent to 620 persons.

Local KAUs and enterprises

The structural statistics are published on both enterprise and local KAU level. The figures on enterprise level may differ from those on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group after main activity, while at the same time consisting of local KAUs in other groups.
