Weaker growth for wholesale and retail trade
Turnover within wholesale and retail trade increased by 2.3 per cent from 2012 to 2013. This is a slightly weaker growth than the previous year. The number of enterprises fell slightly, while there was a small increase in the number of persons employed.

The figure shows the growth in turnover for wholesale and retail trade since 2002. The average growth during this period was 4.6 per cent, with particularly strong growth in the years from 2004 to 2007 and an actual decline in 2009.
The growth in trade and repair of motor vehicles remained fairly stable. Retail trade, however, experienced a decline in the growth rate. From a rise of 3.0 per cent in 2012, the growth fell to 1.5 per cent in 2013. Turnover for wholesale trade increased by 2.7 per cent, compared to 4.8 per cent in 2012.
In total, the wholesale and retail trade industry consisted of about 50 700 enterprises, which employed more than 368 300 persons in 2013.

Additional information
The statistics have figures for both local KAUs and enterprises, but preliminary figures are published only on enterprise level.
The figures for enterprises will deviate from the figures for local KAUs. The reason is that enterprises that are registered with principal activity in one industry may have local KAUs with activities in other industries.
