2014 gave the strongest growth in six years for retail

Turnover within the retail trade increased by 4.0 per cent from 2013 to 2014. This is the strongest growth since 2008, when the growth in retail trade was 4.2 per cent. Within wholesale and retail trade, as a whole, the turnover increased by 2.8 per cent from 2013 to 2014.

For the period 2008 to 2014, the annual percentage growth in turnover has varied for retail trade, wholesale trade and trade and repair of motor vehicles. While the retail trade has had fairly stable growth in the period, we see that the two other industries experienced relatively large variations in growth from year to year, as noted in Figure 1.

Altogether, the wholesale and retail trade consisted of just under 50 500 enterprises, which employed more than 370 200 people in 2014. Overall, these enterprises had a combined turnover of NOK 1 469 billion.
