Sale of motor vehicles amounted to NOK 85 billion

The enterprises within sale and maintenance of motor vehicles and automotive fuel had a turnover of NOK 170.8 billion in 2005. Wholesale and retail sale of motor vehicles amounted to NOK 85.6 billion, or 50.1 per cent.

The turnover is excluding VAT. Only sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and motor vehicle parts and accessories is included, as well as maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, and retail sale of automotive fuel.

NOK 26.5 billion in parts and accessories

The enterprises had a sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories of NOK 26.5 in 2005, or 15.5 per cent of total turnover. The wholesale amounted to NOK 11.5 billion, whereas the retail sale was NOK 15.0 billion.

NOK 20.1 billion in workshop and other types of services

Other turnover amounted to NOK 20.1 billion, or 11.8 per cent of total turnover. Maintenance and repair of passenger motor cars amounted to NOK 11.5 billion, and maintenance and repair of other motor vehicles was NOK 5.6 billion. Vehicle laundry, car-wash services, polishing and waxing services, undersealing and other services related to motor vehicles amounted to NOK 626 million.

NOK 2.2 billion in motorcycles, parts and accessories

The sales of motorcycles, parts and accessories amounted to NOK 2.2 billion in 2005, or 1.3 per cent of total turnover. The retail sale was NOK 1.2 billion, whereas the wholesale amounted to NOK 1.0 billion.

NOK 35 billion in retail sale of automotive fuel

The enterprises within retail sale of automotive fuel had a turnover of NOK 35.0 billion in 2005. Retail sales of automotive fuel and lubricants amounted to NOK 26.1 billion, or 74.6 per cent. Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco was NOK 4.7 billion, or 13.4 per cent. Retail sale of automotive maintenance products amounted to NOK 431 million, whereas retail sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories was NOK 259 million.

Large mixing in business for car dealers and car repair shops

The enterprises within retail sale of motor vehicles had a turnover of NOK 45.5 billion in 2005. Retail sale of motor vehicles and retail sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories amounted to NOK 34.1 and 4.2 billion respectively, or 75.8 and 9.4 per cent of total turnover. The enterprises had an income of NOK 4.1 billion from maintenance and repair of passenger motor cars, or 9.2 per cent of total turnover.

The enterprises within the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles industry had a turnover of NOK 42.5 billion in 2005. Maintenance and repair of passenger motor cars and other motor vehicles amounted to NOK 6.8 and 5.1 billion respectively, or 16.1 and 12.1 per cent of total turnover. The enterprises also had income from retail sale of motor vehicles of NOK 21.1 billion, or 49.7 per cent of total turnover.

The reason for this mixing in business for car dealers and car repair shops is that enterprises within the retail sale of motor vehicles often also often have car repair shops, and vice versa. The industrial code of an enterprise is based on the value added, employment or turnover of the enterprise.
