Retail sales increased 732 million

Retail businesses increased by NOK 732 million in January and February this year compared with the same period in 2000, i.e. up 2.4 per cent. Total turnover amounted to 31.4 billion NOK in January and February.

Retail sale is exclusive sales of motor vehicles and petrol, and all amounts are excluded VAT.

Retailers in Akershus reached a total turnover of 3.5 billions in January and February, up 109 million or 3.2 per cent from 2000. The retailers in Oslo and Sogn og Fjordane experienced the lowest growth rates. In these counties the turnover increased by NOK 3 million.

The retail sale of petrol rose NOK 374 million

The retail sale of petrol increased by 374 million in January and February compared with the same period in 2000, i.e. up 7.3 per cent. The sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 638 million in the period, down 4.6 per cent compared with 2000.

Maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and sale of petrol decreased by 154 million in January and February compared with the same period in 2000, i.e. down 0.7 per cent.

Businesses in Buskerud had the highest percentage decline, 127 million, i.e. down 5.5 per cent in the period. Akershus county experienced, however, a growth of 130 million, up 2.9 per cent.

Wholesaling increased by NOK 10 billion

Total turnover in wholesaling increased by NOK 10 billion during the two first months of 2001 compared with the same period in 2000, up 13.8 per cent. The wholesale of petrol generated alone a 6 billion increase of this growth, i.e. up 65 per cent from January and February 2000.

Wholesalers in Oslo experienced the highest growth, up 6.7 billion or 24.0 per cent. The Nord-Trøndelag wholesale business, however, declined by 34 million or 10.4 per cent.
