Retail sales up NOK 11.7 billion
Retailers, with the exception of motor vehicles and petrol, increased sales by NOK 11.7 billion from 2001 to 2002. This is equivalent to an increase of 5.2 per cent. Total retail sales in Norway were almost NOK 236.3 billion in 2002.
All sales in this connection exclude value-added tax.
Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by 6.5 per cent from 2001 to 2002. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 6.6 per cent during the same period. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores increased by 4.1 per cent during this period. This sector consists of clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Retail sales not in stores, decreased only 0.1 per cent in 2002 compared with 2001.
3.1 per cent up in 6th period
In November - December (6th period) 2002, retail sales increased by 3.1 per cent compared with the same period 2001. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 8.8 per cent in this period. Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, and retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores rose by 5.0 and 4.7 per cent respectively in November and December 2002 compared with the corresponding period 2001. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores rose by 0.7 per cent in the same period.
Sales of motor vehicles and petrol down
Sales of motor vehicles and petrol decreased by NOK 4.41 billion, this is equivalent to a decrease of 2.91 per cent from 2001 to 2002. In November - December (6th period) 2002, sales of motor vehicles and petrol decreased by 2.9 per cent compared with the same period 2001.
Wholesaling decreased by NOK 4.41 billion
Wholesalers decreased sales by NOK 4.31 billion from 2001 to 2002, a decrease of 0.8 per cent. In November - December 2002 wholesalers experienced a small growth of 0.81 per cent compared with the same period 2001.
Annual report is missing
Turnover from local kind-of activity units, which report their VAT turnover once a year is not included. The largest significance will be for the industry groups retail sale of second-hand goods in stores and retail sale not in stores. It will also affect some industry subclasses, which belong to the industry group other retail sale of new goods in specialized stores. These industry groups have the largest part of local kind-of activity units that report their VAT turnover once a year among all the industry groups.
