Retail sales up in summer 2013

From a low start in the first half of 2013, retail sales had an increase of more than NOK 3 billion or 4.4 per cent during July and August this year compared to the same period last year.

Grocery stores, kiosks and food and beverages in specialised stores contributed with a growth in July and August of NOK 2 billion or 7 per cent from the year before. In total, these stores had a turnover of NOK 31 billion in July and August and close to NOK 116 billion in the first eight months of 2013. The turnover in retail sales was close to NOK 278 billion in the first eight months of 2013; an increase of 2 per cent from the same period last year.

Trade and repair of motor vehicles

Sales and repairs of motor vehicles totalled close to NOK 133 billion in the first eight months of 2013; a growth of 2.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. In July and August this year, motor vehicle sales and repairs totalled NOK 32 billion; an increase of 1.2 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Wholesale up 1.6 per cent

During the first eight months of 2013, the total in wholesale was NOK 546 billion; an increase of 1.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. The turnover in wholesale was NOK 138 billion in July and August 2013; an increase of 5.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2012.
