Increased dividend payments

Norwegian limited companies increased their dividend payments by NOK 36 billion in 2012. The main part of the increase came from companies in the mining and quarrying industry, where payments increased by NOK 25 billion.

The limited and public limited companies paid out a total of NOK 230 billion in dividends in 2012. Of this, nearly NOK 95 billion or 41 per cent was paid to Norwegian corporations. Foreign shareholders received NOK 74 billion, households and non-profit institutions received NOK 33 billion and NOK 29 billion went to the general government.

Increased dividends to individual shareholders

Persons resident in Norway increased their dividend income by NOK 1.5 billion, receiving just under NOK 32 billion in 2012. Of this, men received NOK 26 billion, or 82 per cent of the amount, while women received less than NOK 6 billion. Nearly NOK 16 billion or about half of the proceeds that went to individual shareholders ended up in the pockets of men in their forties and fifties.

NOK 18 billion to the Netherlands

Shareholders from the Netherlands were paid NOK 18 billion, or 24 per cent of the amount paid to foreign shareholders. These were followed by shareholders from France and the USA, which were paid NOK 12.5 billion and NOK 11.7 billion respectively.
