Many small establishments
Only 1 in 20 establishments had 20 or more employees as per 1 January 2014. Almost half of the establishments belonged to enterprises within households.

Most of the establishments were small. Only 3 044 of the 526 703 establishments had over 100 employees. A quarter of the establishments were located in the counties of Oslo and Akershus.
Retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles was largest industry
More than 13 per cent of the establishments belonged to retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. Agriculture, forestry and fishing was represented in about 12.5 per cent of the establishments. Construction made up almost 12 per cent at the beginning of 2014.
Households the largest sector
47 per cent of the establishments belonged to enterprises within households. The majority within this sector are self-employed persons, i.e. establishments belonging to personally owned enterprises.
Nearly 6 per cent of the establishments belonged to enterprises within general government.
