One in five newly-established enterprises in Oslo
A total of 54 500 enterprises were established in 2014; an increase of 5.7 per cent compared to the previous year. The largest share of newly-established enterprises was in Oslo, with 22 per cent, and the smallest share was in Finnmark, with 1 per cent.

Private limited companies constituted 38 per cent of the newly-established enterprises, and sole proprietorships made up 58 per cent. The number of newly-established Norwegian divisions of foreign enterprises continued to fall in 2014. A total of 971 newly-established enterprises had this legal form, which was a decline of 11 per cent from 2013.
Most newly-established enterprises in 2014 were in professional, scientific and technical activities, construction, and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, which contributed 15, 14 and 12 per cent respectively.
The greatest increase in newly-established enterprises from 2013 to 2014 was in wholesale and retail trade, other service activities, and education, where there were 445, 321, and 312 more newly-established enterprises respectively. Financial and insurance activities and mining and quarrying saw substantial relative growth from 2013 to 2014, with the number of newly-established enterprises rising by 27 and 19 per cent respectively.
Most enterprises in construction
The number of enterprises went up by 3 per cent from 1 January 2013 to 1 January 2014. Most enterprises were in construction, wholesale and retail trade, and real estate activities, with 14, 13 and 13 per cent of enterprises respectively.
Fewer closures
A total of 48 000 enterprises were closed down in 2013, which was 3 per cent down from 2012. Private limited companies accounted for 27 per cent and sole proprietorships 65 per cent of the closures. Professional, scientific and technical activities, construction, and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles contributed most to the closures, with 15, 13 and 12 per cent respectively.
