Two in five enterprises have no female employees

Forty-five per cent of all enterprises as of 1 January 2014 had both male and female employees. Thirty-eight per cent of enterprises had only male employees and 17 per cent of enterprises had only female employees.

In 64 per cent of all enterprises in construction, and transport and storage, all employees were male. The largest shares of enterprises with exclusively female employees were in other service activities, and health and social work activities, with 60 and 44 per cent respectively.

Most of the enterprises had few employees; 79 per cent had fewer than ten persons employed.

In 14 per cent of all enterprises, the average age of the employees was between 16 and 24 years. Most enterprises with employees in this age group were in accommodation and food service activities, wholesale and retail trade, and arts, entertainment and recreation, with 32, 21 and 20 per cent respectively. In 55 per cent of the enterprises with at least 250 employees, the average age was between 16 and 34 years. The more employees the enterprises had, the younger the workforce was.

In 5 per cent of all enterprises, the average age of the employees was 67 years or older. Most enterprises with employees that were 67 years or older were in real estate activities, with 13 per cent, and in enterprises with up to four employees, with 6 per cent.

At least one of the employees in more than 80 per cent of all enterprises had board experience. In 26 per cent of all enterprises, all employees had board experience, with enterprises in real estate activities and professional, scientific and technical activities dominating. In about half of all enterprises in these industries, all employees had board experience.

The statistics do not include owners in personally-owned enterprises, i.e. proprietors in sole proprietorships and partners with joint liability and unlimited liability.
