Enterprises, 2011-2012

The number of newly established private limited companies increased by 11.1 per cent from 2010 to 2011 and the number of sole proprietorships increased by 3.3 per cent in the same period. Nine out of ten newly established enterprises were private limited liability companies or sole proprietorships.

Most economic activities had more newly established enterprises in 2011 compared to 2010. The largest growth was found within Real estate activities (17.8 per cent), Transport and storage (15.4 per cent) and Education (13.5 per cent).

The variation in the number of newly established enterprises in the period 2001-2010 can mainly be attributed to the variation in newly established limited liability companies (figure 1).

Enterprises as of 1 January

The number of enterprises as of 1 January increased by 1 per cent from 2010 to 2011. Most enterprises as of 1 January 2010 were found within Wholesale and retail trade (14.9 per cent of total) and Construction (14.2 per cent). For 1 January 2012, the preliminary figure shows a slight increase of just under 2 per cent from 2011 (the final figure will be available in 2013).

The figures include all enterprises except enterprises involved in agriculture, forestry, fishing or public administration. The figures for new enterprises in 2011 have been updated compared to the quarterly statistics on new enterprises.
