Strong increase in assessed oil tax

Total assessed taxes for companies assessed by the Petroleum Tax Act amounted to NOK 132 billion in 2004. This was NOK 35 billion or 36 per cent more than the previous year. The increase is mainly due to increased oil prices.

The companies with licence to engage in oil and gas extraction on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, were assessed NOK 50 billion in income tax and NOK 82 billion in special tax in 2004.

Foreign companies engaged in maintenance, repair and services for the extraction companies, were assessed a total of NOK 95 million in income tax.

The statistics are based on information obtained from the Petroleum Tax Office and the Central Office - Foreign Tax Affairs.
