Number of bankruptcies stable

The number of bankruptcies in the second quarter of 2007 remained stable from the second quarter of last year. The majority of bankruptcies were in Oslo and Akershus, which reflects that the two counties have the largest number of enterprises in Norway.

The total number of bankruptcies was 691, of which sole proprietorships and limited companies accounted for 90 per cent. However, these are the most common organisation structures in Norway, as nine out of ten enterprises are sole proprietorships or limited companies.

432 of the bankruptcies are related to enterprises (exclusive sole proprietorships). One of three was founded in 2000 or earlier, while almost 10 per cent were started last year. The remaining 259 bankruptcies are related to sole proprietorships and also include personal bankruptcies. One third of them were in the construction industry.
