Continued decline in bankruptcies
In the second quarter of 2011, the number of bankruptcies was 1 158. This is a decline of 7 per cent compared with the same quarter of 2010.
The largest decline in percentage terms were in the counties of Troms, Møre og Romsdal and Oslo, with 50, 33 and 28 per cent fewer bankruptcies respectively. Oslo was also the county with the largest drop in absolute figures, with 74 fewer bankruptcies.
Most in wholesale and construction
Seven out of ten bankruptcies, a total of 800, were bankruptcies related to enterprises, but do not include sole proprietorships. One third of them were within wholesale and retail trade. Compared with the second quarter of 2010, this figure rose by 5 per cent.
The remaining 358 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. One third were within construction.
Few bankruptcies involve women compared with men1
9 per cent of the sole proprietors that went bankrupt in 2010, were women, whereas a total of 27 per cent of all sole proprietorships are run by women.
